Rahall Recognizes National Assisted Living Week

Press Release

Date: Sept. 8, 2014
Location: Lewisburg, WV

On Monday, U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) recognized "National Assisted Living Week," visiting The Seasons, a skilled nursing facility in Lewisburg.

"National Assisted Living Week is an opportunity to demonstrate how much we care for residents and appreciate the staff members who deliver care every day. I urge all citizens to visit friends and loved ones and to learn more about how these facilities benefit our communities," said Rahall.

Rahall has been an advocate of legislation to ensure seniors' access to affordable and quality long-term care. Most recently, he cosponsored and voted for legislation to prevent severe cuts in Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements to skilled nursing facilities. He also has been a champion of legislation to prevent and treat Alzheimer's and dementia, which affect 40 percent of assisted living residents.

"For many families, the stress and worry of caring for a loved one can be overwhelming. Assisted living facilities can help provide the comfort of knowing that our loved ones are receiving the care that they need. In supporting strong Medicare and Medicaid programs, I am working to ensure our long-term care facilities receive the resources they need to effectively and safely treat their patients with the dignity and respect they deserve," said Rahall.
